Description
The Cessna A-37 Dragonfly, or Super Tweet, is an American light attack aircraft developed from the T-37 Tweet basic trainer in the 1960s and 1970s by Cessna of Wichita, Kansas. The A-37 was introduced during the Vietnam War and remained in peacetime service afterward.
The 8th Special Operations Squadron (Black Birds) flew round-the-clock missions on both pre-planned airstrikes and immediate infantry requests. Whenever a forward air controller observed signs of enemy activity, 8th SOS pilots were ready to respond with rockets, bombs and machine guns. On 30 September 1970, the 8th Attack Squadron was re-designated as the 8th Special Operations Squadron and transferred to the 35th Tactical Fighter Wing. The 8th assumed the tail code "EK"
