Thank you Scott and as Ed mentioned the edits have been made to remove the low-level booster. One of the advantages to working digitally is having "working" file always available.

Scott, good catch. This has been on half dozen or so aviation themed FB pages and only a couple of people caught. It slipped right by me (I'm #3). We were at about 15k so booster would definitely been gone. Having conversed with other guys, this is an almost unseen event in that you normally saw launch about 10 miles out with big flash, booster burns out and rocket burn is less (but still visible as confirmed by view night launch). Then snaking bang-bang guidance begins. This happened so quickly that after 44 years just didn't think about it trying to get all other perspective correct. I have asked Peter to mod.

Peter...love your artwork. However in the painting above I am pretty sure you should have depicted the SA-2 without the booster that does fall off in flight. The booster only fires for maybe 5 seconds or so. Great artwork. Thanks

Artist's Description

"Welcome To North Vietnam" -- I worked with Ed Beakley to re-create his "Alpha Formation" that had a SAM blast through their triangle of A-7 Corsair II's over NVM near the Thanh Hoa Bridge. Be it luck or a miracle, the missile exploded far enough above them that they completed their mission and returned unscathed.

About Peter Chilelli

Peter Chilelli

Art is but one of many passions for me. I believe creativity and imagination requires no formal training and all of us have an artist within. I spent much of my life drawing and painting in traditional ways, but years ago, I found with my computer I could create far more than my skills with a pencil or brush could ever produce. What took me days or weeks by hand, now took hours and allowed me to go places with art I only dreamed of before! I have also added photography to my galleries as another way to create. On my pages you will find everything from aviation and architecture to still life, all featured as fine art. -Peter-
